QIS Primary Curriculum Summary


As a school, we are committed to continuously improving teaching and learning.

 Children in Years 1 – 6 will study:

  • Thematic Literacy (which encompasses Literacy, History, Geography, Environmental Studies and Citizenship)

  • Qatari History
  • PSHE / Circle Time

The following subjects are timetabled for each class but are taught by specialist teachers:

  • Arabic
  • Islamic Studies
  • Music – Key Stage 1 and Early Years
  • French (Years 3 – 6)
  • Physical Education
  • Swimming (from Y3)

Foundation Stage

The UK Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum includes the following areas of learning, which are covered through continuous provision and adult-led learning:

  • CL (Communication and Language)
  • PD (Physical Development)
  • PSED (Personal, Social and Emotional Development)
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • UW (Understanding the World)
  • EAD (Expressive Art and Design)

More detailed curriculum information is shared at regular points throughout the year, including key assessment objectives, theme overviews and weekly objectives. Assessment of the curriculum occurs on an ongoing, continuous basis throughout the year – there are rarely any formal exam-style assessments for Primary pupils other than at the end of Year 6 but parents will have online access to the ongoing assessment records.
