The Qatar International School was founded by the previous Principal Mrs Griffin together with the Owner, Sheikh Ali bin Ahmed bin Thani Al-Thani. The school is managed by British professionals and has developed into one of the largest independent British Schools in Qatar.
The school began in 1977 as a small Pre-School in Montaza area of Doha. The Primary Section opened in 1985, followed by the Secondary Section in 1994. There are now around 1,600 students on the role, ranging from 3 to 18 years of age.
After initially operating out of converted villas, the school moved onto its first purpose-built campus in 1996 in the Mamoura area of Doha. This provided the specialist facilities required by the rapidly-growing Secondary Section.
A further move in 2001 allowed a further significant expansion in space and facilities, taking us to our existing campus in Dafna (West Bay). This campus was built for the school by the Owner.
