Curriculum

QIS is an English-speaking independent day school located in Doha, capital city of the State of Qatar. The school follows the National Curriculum of England (commonly referred to as the 'British National Curriculum') for students ranging between 3 and 18 years of age.

The Qatar International School was founded by the Owner Sheikh Ali bin Ahmed bin Thani Al Thani and the previous Principal, Mrs Griffin. The school started in 1977 as a small Pre-school in the Montaza area of Doha. The Primary section was opened in 1985 followed by the Secondary section in 1994.

The school is managed by British professionals and has developed into one of the largest British Schools in Qatar, with around 1,600 students on the role.

After initially operating out of converted villas, the school moved into its first purpose built campus in 1996 in the Mamoura area of Doha. This move allowed the school to operate from one building as the Secondary section was expanding rapidly.

A further move in 2001 took the school to its present campus in Dafna in the West Bay area of Doha. This building was constructed by the Owner, Sheikh Ali bin Ahmed bin Thani Al Thani to accommodate the expansion of the school. The present building is in a plot of 30,000 square meters of the owner's land, including a technology block, science laboratories, swimming pool, playing fields and a large sports hall as well as the other specialized facilities required to run a successful school.

Our student body is truly international, with over 50 countries represented at the last count. While the teaching staff is predominantly British and the curriculum taught in English, the school is adept at integrating students coming from a wide variety of cultural and academic backgrounds. This site contains a vast amount of information we hope will be of use to a wide audience.
