During January, February and March of this year, year 10 and year 11 students have been taking part in the Adventurous Journey section of the International Award. In January, Mr Walker, Miss O’Hara, Mr Foster and Miss Page took 25 year 11 students to Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE. The students successfully completed the Adventurous Journey section of their Silver International Award. The navigation elements of the Adventurous Journey were more demanding than what the students had faced in their bronze award. Nevertheless, all of the students showed great expertise and confidence in how to navigate in the mountains. The students were a credit to QIS and they all worked very well in their teams. They communicated well and ensured every member of their group made it up the difficult climbs. At the end of the week, the students enjoyed spending time together, playing football and volleyball as well as trying out archery and rock climbing.
Back in Qatar, nearly 60 year 10 students completed a practice and qualifying Adventurous Journey for their bronze award. Students had to navigate around the peninsula of Zekreet, passing by the Richard Serra east-west/ west-east sculptures. All were successful and showed great determination during the expedition. What really impressed the teachers this year was the range of food that was cooked by the students. We are looking forward to seeing your projects from the Adventurous Journey! We would like to say thank you to the following staff for giving their time to help with this trip; Miss Page, Miss Daly, Mr Morton, Mr Shaw, Miss Pomphrett, Miss Arnold, Miss Donaghey, Mr Merrick, Mr McGinty, Mr Foster and Mr Morrison.
