At Qatar International School all Secondary students
participate in Physical Education once a week for one
hour.
The over-riding ethos of the department is to get as
many students as possible taking PE while developing skills,
game play, and their understanding of sport in general.
Offering the exam courses in Years 10 and over is an added
incentive for those who show the necessary work ethic.
Years 7 to 9
Key Stage 3
The PE program consists of 5 units of sport done over
the course of a year. The students do a different sport
in each unit and are graded and assessed for each of the
units they do. They are assessed on skill level, knowledge
of the sport, fitness, game play, participation and effort.
Currently the units are chosen from the wide range of
sports below:
| Basketball |
Fotball |
Handball |
| Rugby |
Hockey |
Cricket |
| Softball |
Badminton |
Water polo |
| Volleyball |
Table tennis |
Swimming |
| Athletics |

Years 10 to 13
Key Stage 4
Students are offered GCSE Physical Education in Years
10, 11 and 12. See the relevant Options Booklet for an
overview of the syllabus.
A non-compulsory PE option is also offered in which students
have two hours of practical activities per week. The sports
offered are in line with the GCE course so that students,
if they wish, can opt to take the GCSE Short Course in
PE, which has the status of half a GCSE. This exam can
be done in either Year 10 or Year 11 depending on the
ability of the individual. The more able students in Year
10 will also have the opportunity to complete the full
GCSE course in Year 11.
For Years 10 and above, summaries (in *.pdf format)
are available in the respective Options Booklets, which
can be downloaded from here.
