Design Technology is a compulsory subject in Years 7
to 9. It is also offered as an option at IGCSE and AS
Level.
Visual communication is the language of design and pupils
will learn to convey creatively and accurately their concepts
and ideas through this universal medium.
At the beginning of the new academic year all pupils
across the key stages will receive folder inserts, which
include grade sheets, grade explanation, keyword, new
vocabulary and target sheets. These are designed to give
the pupils a sense of ownership in their learning and
assessment and for the department to record, assess and
help pupils meet Literacy and Numeracy targets.

Other
As a department we are committed to the integration
and promotion of Literacy and Numeracy within our teaching
and see this as fundamental to the overall development
and success of the pupil within Design Technology. Competitions
are run on a regular basis enabling the pupils to gain
further recognition and house points for their house.
The department runs a 'Pupil of the week' which recognises
the excellence of pupils throughout the key stages. The
award is not given just for those that are talented but
for general effort, improvement, attainment and overall
attitude to study and others within the subject.
The Design workshops are open at most times for pupils
to come in and do extra work and potentially become involved
in other projects. An after-school DT club is run to assist
with homework, this is generally aimed at Year 10 and
Year 11 pupils.
