Infant Topic
Key Stage 1 - Reception to Year 2
In Key Stage 1 we are working towards an integrated approach
to topic. We involve history, geography, art, games lessons
and where ever possible English and music. Each year group
has a variety of subjects to cover within the academic
year.
Topic in general has a practical bias. We aim to teach
our children through experience and exposure. Each topic
lends itself to developing the children’s ability to work
independently as well as collaboratively. School trips
and activity days are designed to re-enforce classroom
based learning.
All the topics are planned around the child’s growing
understanding of the surrounding world. Our aim at this
Stage is to develop an enquiring mind and to introduce
techniques to find the answers.

Junior Topic
Key Stage 2 - Years 3 to 6
Topic in the Junior Department at Qatar International
School focuses on the study of Geography and History through
Topic areas. We try to integrate other subject areas where
possible into these Topic areas. Mathematics, English,
Science, ICT, and Art may feature in the areas that we
are studying by relating activities towards the Topic.
Each class studies four different Topic areas throughout
the year, as a whole year group. The duration of the Topic
areas is eight weeks. There is the opportunity for Class
Outings and Special Days in School relating to each of
the Topic areas, this ensures that the students have an
exciting and memorable experience of Topic in the Junior
Department.
Below is a chart of what historical and geographical
areas the students study in a school year.
The world we live in and the historical events that have
taken place are important to our living today, we encourage
the students to get involved and excited about Topic as
it is truly beneficial to their education and their future
life.
