At Qatar International School, use of computers is an
integral part of the curriculum. While learning how to
use computers in a practical way, other skills such as
Maths, Science and Spelling are actively reinforced.
Computing is timetabled for one hour per week for all
Primary students in Year 2 and above. Teaching is by two
specialist computer teachers, using a well equipped IT
room containing over 20 PC' networked over a high-speed
LAN with Internet access and e-mail.
To begin with, the various parts of the computer (hardware)
are taught as a theory subject while students familiarise
themselves in the use of computers through playing maths,
logic and other educational games.
The students are introduced to a range of common productivity
programs as they move through Primary. By the end of Year
6 all students will be familiar with Logo and the Microsoft
Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, FrontPage,
Outlook).
Student progress is regularly assessed throughout the
year using quizzes and end of term examinations. Parents
receive an end-of-year report to show the children's level
of effort and achievement.
