The Primary section takes children from Reception (4-5
years old) to Year 6 (10-11 years old). It operates from
3 buildings that are dedicated to Years 1 & 2, Years 3
& 4 and Years 5 & 6 respectively. The Reception classes
are housed in the same building as the Pre-School.
Within these primary buildings, there are specialist
teaching rooms for computer studies, music, science and
I.T. There are self-contained play areas for each of the
primary buildings. Class sizes are small, being limited
to 25 children, with some subjects being taught half a
class at a time. This ensures individual attention to
all children.
Key Stage 1 - (Reception to Year 2)
There are subject co-ordinators for Mathematics, English
and Topic at Key Stage 1. In addition to curriculum work
there are after school activities for the children. House
fun days are organised and each class produces an assembly,
which is performed to the children and parents.
Key Stage 2 - (Years 3 to 6)
Schemes of work in Maths and English are established for
the work to be covered during each term and letters are
sent out at the beginning of each term to inform parents
of this work. Topics are covered on a rotational basis.
The list of topics by year group is shown in the Topic Grid.
Two classes are timetabled for outside P.E., this enables
boys and girls to do swimming separately, and for changing
too.
Each week we have an assembly, either teacher led or with
classes performing an assembly. During the year we have
various other activities, including `Book Week', `Maths
Week' and `House Days', with all teachers and classes participating.
