The Early Years Department caters for children from the age of 3 to 5 years. The department is housed in a purpose built unit. There are 5 Pre School classes (3+ years on entry in September) and 5 Reception classes (4+ years on entry in September). There are approximately 24 children in each class.

The curriculum is child centred and activity based as is appropriate for the age group. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Areas of Learning are developed.

• We aim to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum, based upon the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), modified to suit the needs of our international student population

• We equip pupils with the basic tools which are the foundation for future learning (social skills, oracy, literacy and numeracy)
• We provide pupils with first hand experiences to stimulate learning and make it meaningful, this will encourage a positive, enthusiastic approach to work
• We aim to develop independence and self motivation in our pupils
• We encourage children and staff to respect their cultures and beliefs and those of the wider school community
• We promote the expertise and professional development of all staff

Pre School classes all have a teacher and a teaching assistant. Reception classes have a teacher and have time when they are supported by a teaching assistant daily. Specialist Arabic and Quran teachers also work with Reception classes. The staff works hard to create a fun filled, active learning environment.

We recognise that parents are the first educators of children. We believe that when a young child starts school a partnership is created and the education of the child becomes a joint venture between home and school.
