Working at QIS

Living in Qatar
Timetable for transition

Staff dates are similar to the student calendar, with the exception of:

  • at the start of the academic year, staff start one week before the students to prepare classrooms, induct new staff etc.
  • at the end of the academic year, staff remain in school for one more day to complete the pack-up for the summer holidays.

All staff can expect to be in school from 0645 to 1300 hours each school day (Sunday to Thursday). In addition to teaching, most staff are involved in student registrations (i.e. class tutors) and will be on a roster for occassional duties such as playground supervision, exam invigilation, supervision of late students etc..

Staff stay late at least two afternoons per week. One of these is for meetings/in-service/preparation (typically 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.) and the other is to offer an afternoon activity of your choosing to the students (typically 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.).

There is also an obligation to attend a small number of after-school events, such as the School Fair, parents' evenings, Prize Day, envigilation of external examinations etc..

Non-contact time of around 3 hours per week (out of a 25 hour teaching week) is made available to all teaching staff, both in the Primary and in the Secondary.
