Public
State medical facilities are good, and available to residents
for a nominal charge (refundable by the school). Treatment
of minor ailments is slowed by bureaucracy.
All staff under the sponsorship of the school are urged
to register with your local Health Centre (equivalent to
a GP's surgery in the UK) as soon as your residence permit
is completed. When you register you receive a Health Card
which demonstrates your entitlement to treatment in the
public hospitals and includes the reference numbers for
your medical records. Without a Health Card it is impossible
to get treatment for all but emergency cases.
The QR100/- fee for this Health Card and all treatment
costs (including pharmaceuticals) within the government
healthcare system are refundable by the school.
Public dental treatment is less sophisticated, but private
fee paying alternatives are available.
Private
The private medical sector is expanding rapidly, with
private hospitals, dental clinics and specialist consultants
now established. This is available on a fee per consultation
basis.
